CBD (cannabidiol) oil has many health benefits and could improve the lives of many patients by combating certain pathologies or their symptoms. It would prove to be an effective alternative remedy where other classic remedies no longer work and/or cause too many side effects. Is cannabidiol a drug? CBD is a cannabinoid naturally found in cannabis and hemp (hemp differs from most cannabis varieties due to its low THC production). Its extraction is made from the resin or head of the cannabis plant. In France, legislation allows CBD if it is extracted from a plant that contains no more than 0.2% THC. The presence of THC in finished products, whatever its level, is prohibited. Contrary to what one might believe, CBD does not have psychoactive properties because it does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but it is THC which is the active molecule of cannabis and which causes effects on the physical and psychological level (feeling of dry throat, hunger, red eyes, drowsiness, feeling of fatigue and euphoria, etc.). Since cannabidiol is a relatively new product on the market, there are still a lot of misconceptions about it. Some believe that CBD is a drug, and that, like cannabis, it is illegal to possess and consume. Taking CBD is, however, perfectly legal, without side effects and can be beneficial for your health.
Chronic insomnia:
10% of the population suffers from chronic insomnia and 30% face it during their life. CBD helps you fall asleep thanks to its relaxing and anxiolytic effects without causing side effects like usual sleeping pills. In addition, a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information highlighted that CBD maintains alertness during the day, even despite a lack of sleep.
A natural antiepileptic:
CBD may relieve epileptic seizures and convulsions. Epilepsy is a chronic nervous pathology manifested by sudden seizures. Symptoms can take many forms, depending on the type of epilepsy and its intensity, ranging from simple cramps to uncontrollable spasms or even loss of consciousness, which can be extremely stressful. The body naturally secretes molecules close to cannabinoids (endogenous cannabinoid system) which contribute to internal balance. This system is made up of sensors located throughout the body, including CB1 which act on the nervous system. Cannabidiol molecules attach to these sensors and manage to change the “message” sent to the brain, which could reduce the chemical activity that triggers epileptic seizures. Research is still needed to prove the exact mechanisms of cannabidiol in epileptic seizures.
A natural painkiller:
CBD has analgesic properties, it acts on painful joints and relieves chronic inflammation. In addition, its relaxing effects make it easier to tolerate pain and improve mood, especially in the elderly. Cannabidiol stimulates the endocannabinoid system (CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors) plays a key role in controlling inflammation and the autoimmune response. This has the effect of lowering the pain threshold, particularly in the case of chronic illnesses such as osteoarthritis.
